CALENDAR OF EVENTS
26 January 2010: Australia Day Breakfast
Bowen Mountain Park, Lieutenant Bowen Rd, Bowen Mountain, commencing 9 am. BYO breakfast. BBQ facilities are available for members wishing to cook a hot breakfast. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring your own cups, plates and cutlery. Cost will be $2 per person to assist with the park hire fee.
22 March 2010: General meeting
We are arranging for an aboriginal speaker to address this meeting with the subject being the people who lived in the area prior to European settlement. The meeting will be held at St David's Uniting Church hall at Kurrajong Heights, commencing at 7.30 pm.
24 May 2010: General meeting
Frank Holland will give a presentation on "The Governors Preceding Macquarie" at the conclusion of the general meeting.
June 2010: Field trip to Old Government House, Parramatta
This visit to Old Government House will take place after renovations are completed which is expected to be toward the end of May. A firm date of the field trip will be advised closer to the date. Transport is expected to be by members vehicles and normal group entry fees will apply. Lunch can be arranged at the venue, depending on numbers. It is anticipated that the day's activities will get underway at 10 a.m. in Parramatta.
July 27 2010: Annual dinner & general meeting
Guest speaker will be Kevin Rozzoli whose talk will be about the impact Governor Macquarie had on the colony of New South Wales. It is expected that the cost will be $30 per person. Cost and confirmation of venue will be advised closer to the date.
August 30 2010: Coach trip -
Tracing Macquarie's journey
The Memorial Park in Kurrajong Village will be the start of the journey at 9.30 a.m. and the day's activities should be concluded by 3.30 p.m. The tour will start at the site of Dr Jamison's farm at Penrith then trace the route taken by Governor Macquarie and his party in December 1810. The coach will stop at significant locations along the route. Bookings for this event are essential and should be made early as seats are limited.
September 27 2010: Annual general meeting
The Annual general meeting will include as usual the election of office bearers and committee members.
December 1 2010: Formal dinner
To be held at Loxley on Bellbird Hill, commencing 6.30 p.m.
This formal dinner will be the major event celebrating the anniversary of Governor Macquarie's visit to the district and will require appropriate evening dress. The Governor of NSW, Professor Marie Bashir, has been invited to be our guest. An historical recreation of the times will be performed by the Richmond Players. Bookings are essential.
December 3 2010: Schoolchildren's event
A re-enactment of the governor's party passing through Kurrajong will be held at Memorial Park, Kurrajong for the benefit of the schoolchildren of the district. It is planned that a prize will be awarded for the best project by a student from each school and each school will receive a framed parchment commemorating their participation. The event will include a display by members of the NSW Corps of Marines re-enactment group as well as actors portraying Governor and Mrs Macquarie and their party. All will be welcome to attend this event and there are no costs involved.
